Wow! Saturday night, the streets were buzzing. People everywhere! It was like New Years Eve, even after 1am – so many people were still out on the street. I put it down to the weather staying in the balmy mid 20's all night long – it was a scrumptious evening to be out.
I was in.
In the Excelsior, to see the Dropbears.
After waiting for the last 25 years or so to see them.
As I mentioned here a long time ago, Johnny Batchelor was my first love. He picked me up on the day I finished my HSC (aaawwwwwww), which was lucky for me as I needed a date for the formal!
He introduced himself, but I knew who he was – I'd watched the music videos. I'd bought the singles.
But I never got to see the Dropbears play – I was too young.
My patience was rewarded on Saturday, and I knew all the songs!
The place was full, and we were at the back, but I snuck up the front briefly for a few photos, ducking down in my ridiculously high, high heels, so as not to obscure too many peoples' views.
The audience banter at the Excelsior focused heavily on Johnny's big hair, but
there was also quite a bit of idle chit-chat about his toned body. He's looking pretty good for someone, um, a bit older than me, thanks to his passion for yoga.
My favourite song of the night was Lay Him Down, but Patti's was definitely Modern Song – not even a Dropbears song, but from The Numbers. As the gig was billed as a Trade Union Club (oh, how I wish I had been old enough to go there!) reunion, there were special guests jumping up on stage, one being Annalisse Morrow, from The Numbers. Patti loved them, she even had this to prove it…
Which she got in god knows what year at a Countdown recording, along with (while we're on a roll) these,
Swanee….
Possibly Daryl Braithwaite, who can tell, and she can't remember, but it's someone from Sherbet…
Howzat!
And, of course, we can't forget Molly…
But I completely digress.
The Dropbears were great. Check them out on youtube for a trip down memory lane.
My only disappointments?
I was hoping for a little man make-up, like the olden days…
…..and no merch table – would have loved a t-shirt, J.B!
