Back in NSW and more cheese country, but sadly the most exciting thing in the Bega cheese shop was tinned cheese.
That’s right, cheese in a tin, and yes I did buy some, and no, I haven’t tried it yet – saving it for a special occasion.
I like these rocks – they have that ‘snow country’ look.
I should say here (or perhaps I should have said earlier) that we aren’t the greatest planners.
Driving through Europe, many a night was spent huddled over the computer trying to find our next bed, and this Australian trip was no different.
We don’t like to book in advance, in case we see something we like along the way, or perhaps we want to stay longer somewhere. Coming back up the coast, with the nights getting cooler we were basing our search on the availability of a combustion fire. We’d taken quite a liking to them.
After not finding much to tickle our fancy (though I must note here, there are a lot of lovely places that are not visible when searching on the internet – I’m working on changing that), we lucked onto Mystery Bay Cottages.
Mystery Bay had advertised on Wotif at a reduced rate, due to having a last minute cancellation,
and they had a combustion heater.
We booked for two nights.
The beds were comfortable,
and we made good use of the BBQ area, and the games room.
Like I’ve said before, it’s those little extras when you stay somewhere that make your experience more special, fluffy bathrobes, a nice flower, face cloths, or even a stash of birdseed…
Nice touch…
It’s a lovely property within an easy wander (maps of the walking tracks are provided) to pristine beaches.
Which in the drizzle take on a slightly more dramatic look…
This picture stolen from Sonny’s blog, as I didn’t really take any showing the beach itself….
I just photographed bits of the beach
I love the way people have made these lines of white pebbles, like strings of pearls along the cracks of this cliff. Of course we contributed to the rock art by adding a few ourselves…
A burst of colour in the mainly monochrome pebble-scape…
Mystery Bay is yet another place I would have liked to spend longer at,
just relaxing.
Out and about, we paid a visit to the pretty twin hamlets of Central Tilba and Tilba Tilba
There are cheese shops, a lolly shop, antiques, and a weekly market (where I bought a bag of lemon myrtle which is so, so good on slow roast lamb),
and down the road..
there is a winery.
Then, after a late lunch we went to check out a deer farm,
Safari-style
From my favourite movie of all time… “One shot”
mmmm, venison
I want some bees!
A quick internet search to confirm the spelling of Corunna Lake shows that it’s glassy, reflective surface is quite popular with photographers
all doing the same thing we did…
but it is beautiful!
