I had many words of disgruntle to say about the
fact that I was going to the circus. Billed as “a circus with a difference
….. South American theme” etc, etc – rather than fueling my interest,
this only served to fuel my sarcasm about it.
People don’t notice, but I always admit when I’m
wrong. (Perhaps they don’t notice, because it’s so rare! Okay, okay, hold back
your comments. I am joking. A little).
Anyway. I stand corrected on the whole circus
thing. While admittedly, the one I went to was pretty budget, it was great. And
yes I know I’ve often had a thing or two to say about carnys, but you gotta
hand it to them. They do these awesome stunts on trapezes, high-wires, and
wheels-of-death, and in between, get changed into civies, and run out to the
sideshow alley to man the stalls and sell drinks and popcorn!
And their stunts are awesome!
The girls on the trapezes, or the one tied up on
the strips of fabric, well, boys, I just have to say, if you have a penchant
for scantily-clad women showing amazing flexibility and strength while wrapping
themselves around things, and wrapping things around them, you ought to check
out your local circus.
And girls, yeah I know, carny guys are scary, but
this South American version, I tell you, there were a couple of hotties, and
when you see what they can do with their bodies, well, the circus becomes much
more than an event for the kiddies.
As you can gather, I took just the phone to
photograph with. I do like the low res for things like this, though.
This chick was the best performer of the night….
The funniest, at least.
Hehehehe.
This is a still from a short
film I did many years ago. Can’t remember much about it, except they also
used my XP Falcon in it, the head-dress was really heavy, and I hung out with
the carnys all day in their caravans. This was from the days when animals were
still used in the circuses, so I also remember the elephants there. I’m glad
they have stopped using the poor things, now.
Just thought I’d add that
extra dimension to my reportage.
It’s a b/w pic, after all.
As I was leaving, my small,
yet eager, entourage asked me if (the high-wire act) being from Colombia, made
them particularly brave. Of course I was honest. I answered, “Not
especially, unless they have chewed on those special leaves”.
Satisfied with my answer, all agreed it was a great night out.
Some cropping of photos has occurred in this
re-post from my previous blog. For those who
are super-keen, a right-click on the image
to view it in a new tab will show the full size.
Apologies.
