Back at the airport, not long after returning from Fiji
and it was the first class lounge for an international flight to Adelaide
at a far more civilised hour than last time
I had two reasons for making my third trip to South Australia in a year.
First was my good friend (and former flatmate) Kirsty's significant birthday.
She had a 'F' (for fancy dress?) themed party, so the person attached to the eyelashes is me as a fairy, accompanied by (it seems a terrorist dressed as a) fighter pilot.
Great party, complete with delicious food, a band, and Kirsty's clever friend, Luke, had even built a photo booth for the night.
Brilliant idea, and so fun!
The (flapper) birthday girl, and I…
And with Britt, our other flatmate who had also flown from Sydney for the party…
The second reason for my visit to Adelaide was to see Swedish friends Micke and Ellis who had just made a return trip to escape the northern winter.
Unlike last time they were out here, they remembered the Cheez Doodles, so I was very very happy to see them!
Perhaps a little foolishly, they were keen to follow us around the countryside in a hire car for two days.
Our first stop was our old favourite, Lake Bumbunga,
but holy hell it was soooooooooo windy!
I could barely stay out there to take photos.
But it's such a spectacular landscape.
All poor little Aprilia could do was huddle for cover…
and Norton's hat blew off, and flew (with Micke chasing it) all the way to the other side of the lake. Perserverance paid off. He caught it.
And filled his exercise quota for the next month!
Over on the other shore, it was just as blowy, and very dry.
Sonny went down for more pictures (it seems the place was suddenly popular – look at all those other people), but I declined
preferring the relative shelter of the picnic area,
with some dips and wine that we had picked up from a local winery…
The next day we headed towards Noarlunga, resting for a swim and a surf at Onkaparinga.
I love the effect my (lens) filter gives Norton's creamy skin…
Super-duper love this…
Sonny in deep blue…
After the refreshingly icy dip, we checked out a couple more wineries. So nice that Adelaide has the Mclaren Vale wine region literally on it's doorstep.
Yummy cheese…
Aprilia modelling a very nice 'I'm With the Band' t-shirt…
But we weren't finished there.
The Swedes sensibly pulled out before Sonny and I ventured further to Myponga, which was pretty, but I was keen to get back to meet up with Kirsty again for dinner, so we only stayed long enough to grab a few pictures.
No filter, just about Yves Klein blue!
So another great trip to South Australia, and another great stay at the Adelaide Meridien.
I've said in the past I could live in Adelaide, though this trip has taught me I couldn't. I still love it, but that air was so dry that most of the time I could barely see out of my cloggy eyes!
Give me humidity any day (except in my wardrobe).
