Sydney to Belgium via Bangkok, Dubai, and Amsterdam….
Yes. It was a long trip with three kids.
None of us slept very much – I got about one hour in forty.
The weirdest thing was, I didn’t feel tired when I arrived at lunchtime, and I stayed awake until 9pm. No jet-lag the next day. Awesome!
And it was lucky that I felt good when I woke up because my favourite breakfast ever was waiting for me – goats cheese wrapped in prosciutto and fried. Yum!

Yesterday we went to visit Wim and Hilda (where we had stayed on our last trip). It is such a beautiful home and garden, and we were well fed all day as we lazed about in the summer warmth….
….and picked cherries from the overloaded trees.
When I buy cherries at home, they are always so expensive that I just get a small bag that the kids and I have to ration. To have trees this laden with fruit, and a free pass to eat as much as we liked, was heavenly!
Boy with broken arm, in the cherry tree.
Yes, Evan broke a bone before we left for Europe. Last time we were here he had his appendix removed, so I’m glad the break happened before, and not during this trip (though I don’t think he is).
Since I was last here, Hilda (who is not only lovely, but a very talented artist as well) and Wim have renovated their barn into an art space, and it looks rustic and beautiful.
The apples won’t be ready for picking for another month or so, but we still got to drink the yummy juice from last season’s harvest.
This apple tree fell over a few years ago, but that hasn’t stopped it fruiting….
…When it had fallen, Hilda, with the help of Wim and some of the wood left in the barn, as well as another artist, built a wooden tree behind the fallen apple tree. Perched at the top was a seat, and on it’s ‘branches’ were bird houses.
Symbolically perhaps, the wooden tree eventually fell too.
So, so pretty.
