A short while ago (as in, not the 100million light years I referred to in the title), I happened to fall back in contact with a rather influential figure in my life from a long while ago… the photographer who gave me my start in modelling.
Every weekend, when I was still in school, Kent Johnson would call me, and I'd be off to his studio in Newtown for photos. OK, maybe it wasn't every weekend, but it felt like that. I had a lot of cool clothes, and I guess a fair amount of free-time, so we ended up with a lot of pictures between us. It was good fun, and great practice! A couple of times, Kent even let me use his space to take my own pictures, so it was good to catch up.
As it turns out, there are a couple of shots of me sitting out there on the net that I didn't know about (there's quite possibly more than a couple – scary!), and the funny thing is that I can read comments people have made, more about the photos themselves, but some about me. It's like people talking about you when you're in the same room – kind of.
I love this dress in this photo that Kent has, though it was a teeny bit too small on me, I recall. I wonder what size it was, 'cos I was fairly teeny too, in that galaxy far away. It was by a designer called Reva. I had tons of his stuff – though that particular one came from a stylist. I was a bit of a fashion person back then, and he was by far my favourite. I even wore one of his dresses to my school formal.
I can't even remember this photo , or where it was. Can't say I love the way I look in it either (too blokey), but it's nice black and white.
I told Kent I would have a look through what I had and put them up for him, so here's a small selection…
This one may be from the same shoot.
Here, the singlet is Boyproof (Peter Morrisey and Leona Edmiston), the skirt may be Reva, the legging/sock things definately are Reva, and the shoes? They're my school shoes!
My Dad's jumper… and I still have that hat.
Reva top and skirt. Wish I still had that skirt.
Different Reva top, same Reva skirt. Wish I still had that top!
This is a very small selection of what I could find. There's quite a few cool transparensies that I couldn't scan, much as I would have loved to. It's just so funny to look at these old pictures of myself, and the fact that I (Miss anti-Fashion) can remember all these outfits is extraordinary!
So, that concludes our fashion history lesson for today.
