Not as long to drive as the previous day, but still a fair hike. And so hot. Sonny doesn't have air-con in the old Volvo, so it was windows down, but at 130km an hour that can be pretty breezy, and really noisy. It's a fine balance between how far each window goes down, combined with the sunroof for coolness and how much noise you can stand.
The kids, all in the back seat, fought and whinged, and slept. But they also played, told stories, and laughed. I really think, on the whole, they've been pretty good, considering.
I'm really enjoying trying out the different food on offer at petrol stations. I'm not joking! Some have really yummy stuff! And, I'm a cheese chip connoisseur now. My favourite is an emmenthal variety from France (don't worry, folks, they're still not as good as Cheez Doodles). oooh Yay – I go back to France today, I can get more!
It was a welcome relief to get out of the heat of the car and into the wind to take these photos…
That's me in the headscarf. It's become a bit of a feature as it stops my hair blowing all over my face in the wind-tunnel-Volvo. That brown one is a bit special, too, because my Mum bought it, when we were in Greece in 1978, and wore it around Europe – so I'm doing the same.
There are so many windfarms on the highway in Spain. It's great. It's such a barren landscape through there, I think they look almost alien, but so cool.
