We love a road trip.
Well, that's not entirely accurate. The kids have a love/hate relationship with road trips. They love the journey, but hate sitting in the car for hours on end.
Still smug from the success of our European road trip, I assured the kids that going in the relative luxury of my old 9-seater ex-taxi would make all the difference.
Everyone got a camera? Check.
Everyone got a water bottle? Check.
Everyone got their Blundstones? Check.
We headed off at sunrise, arriving at my sister Lisa's house for a quick, warm brekky.
Our first photo moment was at Windamere Dam. We've stopped by the lake with the kids before, and spent the day there on a shoot, but I've never checked out the dam wall before.
The girls cracked me up, taking planking shots of each other (see Sonny's blog).
We were in Mudgee in time for lunch – tapas at 'Manana' – where I had a delicious prawn and chorizo salad.
Mudgee surprises me, changing so rapidly from a mining town of burgers and sandwiches, to one of the great gourmet areas of NSW. I average a visit a year, and can't get over how different it is from only a few years ago.
Grabbing some petrol before heading out to Kathy's house, we met Peter Brooks, filling up his duckmobile…
He is a charming man, who invited us to his house to check out his artwork…
..we had to decline this time, we wanted to spend the afternoon at Kathy's, as we had another very early start the next day.
But I will definitely pay him a visit next time we are in Mudgee.
We made sure we took a jerry can of petrol to Kathy's…
and spent the afternoon wandering around the property with Princess Siobhan
and the dogs
I love Kathy's night time toilet visitors…
