While having my swanning week at the Westin, I
managed to slip out into the real world for some good music, heading by train
to the Sando to see not 1, but 2 of, the fabulous, Joe’s bands.
Joe is a talented puppy. Not only does the man
sport a mo, but I have personally witnessed him playing the guitar, the
keyboard, and for this particular night, I was to see him hitting the skins in,
firstly, The Late Night Sound, then Starcasm. I hadn’t seen him play live
before, so I was keen to ditch the fluffy bathrobe in favour of a place where
the toilets have those blue fluoro lights which are great at stopping junkies
who have a suntan and no track-marks from hitting up – pale junkies, or ones
with ready-made red marks don’t have such a hard time…. derrrrr.
As is my standard, I was running just late enough
to miss all but one song of the first band – unfortunately, it was The Late
Night Sound, so I can’t even really tell you what they were like.
I can, however, tell you that Starcasm (with the
exception of the part-time chantuese, who is, also, a good sort) are a
very handsome band. Now, I know I have raved about Fort in the past. The guys
in Fort are bloody hot. But I tell you, Starcasm are a fantastically
handsome bunch of blokes, in a very “days of yore”, suave kinda
way. Of course, this is not the only thing I take note of when I go
to watch a band, but I’d love to photograph these guys. I mean, I did
photograph them, but not really with the best of light and technique
Trying to describe their sound, I looked on their
myspace to see how they described themselves….. “emotronic, country,
psychedelic”. Well, I guess they could be that, but also a lot more.
To me, they oozed potential uber-stardom. I think they’ve got what it takes.
That’s a huge call from me, and it’s got nothing to do with Joe’s mo!
Have a listen on their myspace page
