Fashion Week has finished.
Normally I wouldn’t have this
information, let alone be imparting it to you, but this year I happen to
know. It was a little bit of, it’s not what you know……
Sunshine of my life returned from his
European gallavanting for Sydney Fashion Week – RAFW. The good folks at
RAFW saw fit to put him up in the not too shabby Westin hotel in the CBD, nice
and close to all the runway action, so he didn’t have to do the commute back to
mine-in-the-sticks. Good thing too. Last week, on his first day back, he killed
my brand new, sickenly expensive tyre and the wheel that said tyre cocooned, on
a dark and mysterious pot-hole. The Westin was a good thing – not because I
wanted to get rid of him (I really don’t see him much at all), but because,
well, if you wanna get on my good side….

How good is that bath! I don’t have a
real bath at home!
I found the best restaurant on the first night.
‘The Red Lantern’ on Crown st Surry Hills. I spotted it because it looked
good and said it was Vietnamese. Dead-set, it was the best Vietnamese Ive had
outside of Vietnam, which I know is a terribly wanky thing to say, but it was
(and it was fashion week, wanky things are as de riguer as the phrase de
riguer!). It’s not cheap, but it is very good.
Looks a little ‘bordello’ in this pic
Next day I was ready for some serious gettin’
’round like a good sort. Sonny had gone to work, to do what he does….
Photo borrowed from a website – I can’t remember which one, but if it’s
yours, due credit, and thanks.
Hey guys! Tough
job, eh? Traveling the world to photograph beautiful models?
And girls. I know,
it’s a pretty steep call to have a boyfriend who spends his whole hedonistic
time with beautiful chicks, but lucky for him, I keep him around because
he’s so damn good in bed – lucky for me too, I guess.
……I had to restrain myself a little on the
brekky, even though the bircher muesli was phenomenal, and the eggs with smoked
salmon were a delight to my tastebuds, I was headed for the
gymnasium. After a little iron pumping, a swim was in order. I must
say I was a little dissappointed in the pool. It didn’t have the luxurious feel
that the rest of the joint did. It was accessed by a maze of corridors and
staircases, and perhaps as a consequence it was completely devoid of human
life. It was … kinda spooky.
I did a little work. I edited some pictures I had
taken on the weekend for an album cover, but more on that in another post.
Patti-on-a-work-hiatus paid me a
visit.
Hungry, we high-tailed it to the Belgian Beer
Cafe for some of those blue-cheese mussels. Super yummy,
just not so appealing to other senses – unless you’re into chicks, of course.
Then it was time for some serious
swanning.
I’d wanted to go to the MCA a few weeks ago, but
had been put off by the uninteresting description of their current exhibits, so
went to the Art Gallery instead. Patti suggested we have a look
and I’m glad I went. I loved the work, though I’m afraid I can’t remember
any of the artists.
Perhaps I was too overwhelmed by this shop we had
passed just up the road.
That’s right my dear readers. It was a
BEDAZZLER SHOP! I know! I could barely believe it myself! I didn’t see
anything promoting the bedazzler there, but I tell you, every piece there had
been ‘done’. All those poor souls who purchased the Demtel product in years
past but lacked the creative abilty to work out which rhinestone or diamante to
put where, can now rest at ease, because, just a short stroll from the classy
and salubrious MCA is bling-ville, high-fashion heaven!
Which provides me with a nice segue into my
dinnertime companion. Sonny and I went out with Bryan, of Bryanboy
fame, or infamy depending on which side your bread is buttered. Bryan is a
petite Filipino groupie of all things fashion. This is the new breed of star.
Google him and you will find his blog, which apparently can have up to 100,000
hits a day. On the strength of this blog, RAFW had sponsored Bryan to come and
watch the Sydney shows. There, he was showered with gifts and feted by the
media…. hmmmm…. Perhaps I could do a little more with this platform??
I did have to return to work for a couple of days
(a good safety net to prevent any chance of me being swayed to follow a fashion
rule, and too much of the fluffy bathrobes may have spoiled me), but I
managed to be back in the city at the end of the week. On Thursday night, after
seeing Joe’s 2 bands at the Sando (yes, but in another post), and Friday night
for the RAFW wrap party at the Piano Bar in the Cross.
Sonny and Bryan pimp my paparazzo
The Piano Bar is under the Coke sign. Can you see the reflection?
Looks a bit scarier in b/w
More champagne, anyone?
Some cropping of photos has occurred in this
re-post from my previous blog. For those who
are super-keen, a right-click on the image
to view it in a new tab will show the full size.
Apologies.
