Time to head northwards and (eventually) to the first of my two home exchanges.
We went via the Dolomites.
The weather cooled and was (unbelievably for me, because I love hot weather) a welcome change.
The landscape there is dramatic, set amongst soaring rocky peaks – of dolomite (hence the name haha), and granite. There is an almost mystical feel to the area, with it’s lush greenery and mountain lakes all surrounded by sharp pinnacles.
Then, for the first time in a month of travel, we got some rain – but just a light, mountain mist type. We have been very spoiled with the weather!
We ended up in the area of Trentino, famous for it’s springwater, settling for the night in the town of Nago, and the Hotel Doria.
Nago is a typical ski-resort town with an Italian bent –
cute houses in cute streets with young, attractive people…
… and vespas.
I love all the murals.
This next photo, well,
do you have any idea how hard it was for me to NOT pull the cord????
As I showered, my mind raced with possible scenarios for shower emergencies in the Hotel Doria…
I left my soap in the other room?
I need my back scrubbed?
After a heavy day’s skiing I have a cramp and can’t reach my towel?
I wonder if, at the reception desk, there is a board with lights on it next to each room number, and they light up whenever the corresponding emergency cord is pulled?
I thought it was quite funny.
The Hotel Doria, aside from it’s shower quirk, is a very pleasant, small hotel. The room was cosy for the five of us, but would be lovely for two, and it had a very pretty view across quaint, lichen-covered rooftops towards the mountains.
