I do still, sometimes, get out, and I was really excited to be taking my kids to a couple of gigs recently.
As a Christmas present I took them all to see Nick Cave, and for Evan’s birthday I took him to see the Dropkick Murphys.
So fun!
Readers may recall my kids’ passion for Nick Cave and their cover of the Mercy Seat from last year on the salt lake, so I was like a kid myself counting down the days to the gig at the Enmore.
And then I found out Mark Lanegan was support!
Honestly. Things don’t get better than that!
Except that Sonny was able to come back a day early and get a ticket too.
Did I mention I was excited?
Mark Lanegan was fantastic, and Nick Cave rocked his finest with my favourite songs – all ageless moves and poetry. My only sorrow was Mercy Seat wasn’t an eight minute belter (and that I couldn’t dance in the seats that I had chosen so the kids got a good view),
but all was made up for by the Lanegan/Cave duet of The Weeping Song.
So fucking awesome!
Way too exciting to take my camera, but it didn’t stop Evan, so here is his recording of Into My Arms…
and you should also check out The Weeping Song with Mark Lanegan (recorded in Brisbane, thanks ‘cursedy’).
So good!
A few weeks later (and only just a few days ago), Evan and I headed off to Luna Park’s Big Top, and it’s all ages mezzanine level for some river dancing fun (not really. And I think Ev would prefer it if his mum didn’t bounce about quite so much, but oh well) with the Dropkick Murphys.
It’s a great vantage point up there – you see all the most crazy moshing and crowd surfing without worrying that your little baby may get hurt.
Here’s Ev’s medley recording from the end of the gig.
I love how many people are up on the stage.
It’s a long clip, but if you are patient, you will get Dirty Deeds thrown in for good measure!
Evan had a good time.
We all had a good time.
So nice now that my kids are at an age that they can just hang out with me.
I hope it stays that way.
