After Trieste, we had planned to go to Croatia, but our time had been shortened due to our stay in Nice, and the apartment we had booked wouldn’t be available anymore. Of course, I angsted, as I tend to, about should we or shouldn’t we, but I had such a keen desire to see Rome, and for the kids to see Rome. I figured, a couple of days is not really enough to kick back and relax in Croatia, but a couple of days in Rome and you can see so much. So Rome it was.
Past Monaco…
..and the most beautiful chalky/azure waters (you can’t really tell in these pictures because it had the wind on it, but all I wanted to do was dive into that colour)
Chocolate croissant break at the border…
Then, Italy.
Summer snow.
A stop in Tuscany, in the town of Lamole.
Chianti region.
Casa Al Prato is a typically Tuscan farmhouse, of generous proportions. We rented the place to ourselves, and for a change, there was room for more of us. Big living area, huge kitchen, and outdoor dining areas – it would be a perfect place to base yourselves (and friends) for more than one night.
In fact, the only thing distracting us from the blissful delights of an area steeped in the pleasures of winemaking was the munching…
Munch, munch, munch,
That beautiful old house is riddled with termites. You can see them, and hear them!
Not that I was truly distracted by the audio, I just thought it was funny, but sad they had taken such a toll on the place. Sonny spoke with the owner who said they are the type that only each the outer surface of the wood. I am not aware there is a type like that, but I hope for her sake there is.
Carnage in the (once) solid block above the mantel piece.
