"Hello. Barter and Sons Hatchery."
"Hi. I've got some chickens, and , well, the 2 that I got from you guys a couple of years ago are behaving a little oddly. They won't leave their sleeping area, they seem to want to sleep all the time, and they get really narky when we approach them. They've been doing it for a couple of weeks, and they're not laying."
"Sounds like they're broody"
"For a couple of weeks?"
"They want babies. Why don't you come and get some babies for them? Or else, you should just keep trying to cool them down. As long as they stay warm, they will stay broody, but if you can cool them down, they will come off it. Some say you can give them a quick dunk in cool water 4 times a day"
"Hmmm. Gee. Ok. I'll think about it. Thanks"

"CAN WE GET SOME BABY CHICKENS!!!????!!"
"PLEASE, CAN WE, CAN WE, CAN WE?"
Plus a hefty degree of plea-bargaining today, and 1 and a half hours down the road…
Love the ceiling there. Absolutely covered in webs. Bet those chicks would love to get up there and taste-test a few spidery morsels.

Then tonight, under the cover of darkness (as instructed), the broodys – Higgledy Piggledy and Fernando Gonzales – snuggled up in new quarters, sleepily allowed us to slip 1 little chick under each of their bodies. The chirping of Scarett and Nico's was immediately silenced by the warmth and comfort of their new mum's bodies. Hopefully the morning will see 2 happy new mums, 2 happy new babies, and 2 happy chickens (Luxe and Blackie) finally allowed back in their own sleeping quarters without being pecked by overly clucky cluckers.
G'night John Boy
