There are quite a few must-sees in FNQ, and Mossman Gorge ranks very high, particularly for the swimmers.
Oh how I wished the weather had been just a teeny bit warmer so I could have swum in those crystal clear waters!
Next time.
The new Mossman Gorge Centre is your base camp to experience all the gorge has to offer, as well as give you an immersion into indigenous culture, with the local Kuku Yalanji people offering tours and experiences in the area.
Or, you are welcome to explore on your own…
Crystal clear!
So lush
The area is boardwalked and signposted.
One sign taught me about 'cloud stripping'. You see, not all of a rainforests' moisture comes directly from rain.
Where the high mountains of the tropics reach the clouds, the trees 'strip' moisture from passing clouds, which in turn is deposited on leaves, stems, and trunks, with the excess falling to the ground.
In some months, up to forty percent more moisture is harvested from the clouds by the forest trees, than falls as rain!
Neat, heh!
Love the tree roots!
Beautiful place.
In fact, the only other thing I would have loved to do while I was up there was take a tour with brothers, Linc and Brandon Walker. They teach you (amongst other things) how to hunt with a spear in the mangroves and mudflats, then finish with a meal of the seafood you have caught. My ideal experience.
Please check the tour out, if you are in the Daintree and tell me what I missed!
Ahhh…. Next time.
Scenes near Mossman…
No ten second rule here.
This off-cut of cane was lying on the dusty roadside…
And this cute dog was hanging out, nothing/no-one else around….
…except this sign…
Funny
Roots…
Mossman River…
I wanna swim!
Next time…
