Last time I was in Sweden, Kerstin had taken me and her (then little) niece, Emma, to the zoo. I loved seeing the animals that I’d never seen before. So this time we took my kids.
Wolf.
(Wild) squirrel.
How gorgeous is this guy! Thidwick, without his horns.
‘Thidwick, the Big-Hearted Moose’ is my favourite children’s book, when I was a kid, and now.
This one knows what it wants – sitting near the fence will get it a good dose of love!
Loved the seals,
but not so sure about the viewing window underneath…
Now Dasher (with some mighty antlers),
Dancer,
Prancer and Vixen, Comet,
Cupid (with Dasher, who was being a real ass to Cupid, relentlessly chasing Cupid away),
Donner,
and Blitzen.
I really loved the reindeer, particularly their beautiful antlers. They reminded me a lot of the headpieces Gail Sarronda used in her show at RAFW this year – striking design covered in downy fur.
I’m really enamoured with those antlers!
Poor Cupid, though!
Skansen is not only a zoo, but an ‘outdoor museum’ that shows a little of Sweden as it was in Ye Olde Days, so it’s a good day out.
Kerstin and I shared a special lolly treat on the way back. Look how cold it is there – I’m so rugged up after those last months traipsing around in summer dresses!
Then, over meatballs (again) the kids composed a note to tie to a helium balloon – if anyone found the note they could email us and let us know where they found it…
Very cute, as they set it on it’s journey…
… but no email.
