Qantas is tightening it's belt. Subtly.
Flying to Adelaide yesterday, on an 11am flight, I asked for white wine when the food service came past only to be told they weren't serving alcohol.
Eh?
Yeah, not on morning flights.
Well, as it turns out, not in economy on domestic morning flights. But still!
I don't like flying. Take-off and landing as well as during any sort of turbulence, I'm the one sitting there, face scrunched up into a tight wrinkled ball white-knuckling my way through it. Valium would fix it, but I prefer a drink. Though now, apparently not on morning flights.
It's a subtle way of saving money. Qantas could have just started charging for the alcohol like so many other airlines, but they would have looked mean, un-Australian even. This way they can look like they care about our health and well-being, by saying we shouldn't be drinking in the morning – unless we pay for a business class ticket.
Forewarned is forearmed.
I was meant to be on an afternoon flight anyway.
It didn't turn out too bad for me. The lovely attendant took pity on me and my fear, as well as the fact I was seated where someone had obviously vomited on the previous flight (flashbacks of my last plane trip) and got me a glass from up the front. Bless her.
