I have been loving the harvest in my garden this summer, although it was very slow to start.
I have around thirty frangipani plants which start flowering in October in any other year, but this year, the summer took so long to warm up consistently that I didn't get any frangipani flowers until mid January.
Here is the first…
Even now, only about four or five plants have flowered. Crazy!
I love my red hibiscus
and then there's been the food. On top of the chooks eggs, here's a small selection of the other things we've got from our edible garden…
With the cooler start to summer, it was the right decision to put the banana bunch under the warm verandah roof. The trick was to keep it out of possum reach as it ripened. Easier said than done. I caught them more than once jumping onto this bunch!
My final possum solution was to wrap the bananas in anti-bird netting, which worked, and we ended up with so many bananas we had to make three banana cakes with what we didn't eat!
Sweet grapes
Soon to be harvested olives. Stay tuned for those results…
Tomatoes
Strawberries
Through the corn to the basil
And Elsa – not terribly edible, but often found in the garden…
